Today I will be highlighting two short stories.
Both of them are picture books and both of them have beautiful illustrations!
Let's dive right in.
Title: Mac & Madi's Surprise: A Very Different Twins Birthday
Author: Linda Herron
Pages: 35
I love how this book is about twins. I, as a teacher, have two sets of twins in my classroom and both don't look the same. One boy and girl and two girls. Sometimes their personalities do have the same characteristics, and it's fun to be working with twins and observing them. So this book, being about twins, is something that I can relate to!
The illustrations in this book are gorgeous. They are a bit pastel-like and I'm immediately a fan of Marie Delon, who illustrated this book.
This book would be perfect to read in class, since the book feels perfect to make predictions about how the story is going to unfold.
The story has a great message behind it, how anyone should get the chance to be themselves and how being different can be fun too! Great to start conversations in class.
Author: Regina Mcdonald
Pages: 56
When looking at the cover, I can imagine some kids maybe finding the main character a bit scary with all the big teeth. I do love the colours that pop out!
I'm not a big fan of the font, but I do like how the pages with the text are illustrated with matching illustrations.
I'm a fan of repetition in children's books, since it invited the children to participate and they will know little parts of the book. It's always a lot of fun when the kids are able to chant the words to the book.
I also like the fact that personal hygiene is a topic in this book. Perfect for young children and kindergarten classes.
Both picture books are worth reading.
Did you read any good short stories or picture books lately?
