Synopsis
Don Tillman is getting married. He just doesn't know who to yet.But he has designed the Wife Project, using a sixteen-page questionnaire to help him find the perfect partner. She will most definitely not be a barmaid, a smoker, a drinker, or a late-arriver.
Rosie Jarman is all these things. She is also fiery and intelligent and beautiful. And on a quest of her own to find her biological father - a search that Don, a professor of genetics, might just be able to help her with.

The Wife Project teaches Don some unexpected things. Why earlobe length is an inadequate predictor of sexual attraction. Why quick-dry clothes aren't appropriate attire in New York. Why he's never been on a second date. And why, despite your best scientific efforts, you don't find love: love finds you.

My thoughts
With the bookclub Books Ever After, were reading all three Don Tillman books. I just need a fluffy, cute, romance book once in a while. You can just lay back and enjoy the ride. This book is easy to get through, has a lot of humour and is just adorable to read.

Pros
  • Fluffy: The book is just SO FLUFFY. I love it. I needed a book like this so bad and I'm so glad I get to read the second book in May. You can just read, not worry about people dying, wars and other very heavy subjects.
  • Humour: I loved this. There is a lot of humour in the book, especially Rosie, who can be sarcastic, is my favorite. But the best part is how Don translates these jokes and how he responds to it. It gives you a lot of hilarious scenes in this book.
  • Asperger syndrome: The autism in this book feels real. I'm a teacher, I've worked with a lot of kids that have autism, they are all different but autism also has some recognizable character traits. Don feels like a very real person and I believed everything in his character. He was one of the strongest characters I've read in a romance book in a while.
Cons
  • Choice of words: The writing style in this book wasn't my favorite. I'm sure it totally fits Don as a character, but it was sometimes pretty hard for me to read. I'm stubborn and I just like to read book in English, if that's what they're originally written in. I was doubting myself... Maybe I should read the book in Dutch? I just don't want to because I know it's still different from the original book. I just found some parts in the book hard to understand.
Overall
Light-hearted, fluffy, cute, adorable, just so worth your time. For every chick-lit/romance lover this is a MUST read. I've heard so many good things about this book, and I feel like it was hyped for a while (especially in Dutch bookstores), but it totally lives up to the expectations!

Other opinions on this book
"Sometimes you just need a smart love story that will make anyone, man or woman, laugh out loud."
- San Francisco Chronicle

"Simsion's attention to detail brings to life Don's wonderful, weird world. Instead of using Don's Asperger's syndrome as a fault, or a lead-in to tragic turn of events, Simsion creates a heartwarming story of an extraordinary man learning to live in an ordinary world, and to love. As Don would say, this book is 'great fun'".
- Usa Today

Memorable quotes from this book
"But why, why, why can't people just say what they mean?"

"Fault! Asperger's isn't a fault. It's a variant. It's potentially a major advantage. Asperger's syndrome is associated with organization, focus, innovative thinking, and rational detachment."

Thanks for reading!
