Synopsis
John Rothstein, an iconic author who created a famous character, Jimmy Gold, but who hasn’t published a book for decades. Morris Bellamy is livid, not just because Rothstein has stopped providing books, but because the nonconformist Jimmy Gold has sold out for a career in advertising. Morris kills Rothstein and empties his safe of cash, yes, but the real treasure is a trove of notebooks containing at least one more Gold novel.

Morris hides the money and the notebooks, and then he is locked away for another crime. Decades later, a boy named Pete Saubers finds the treasure, and now it is Pete and his family that Bill Hodges, Holly Gibney, and Jerome Robinson must rescue from the ever-more deranged and vengeful Morris when he’s released from prison after thirty-five years.

My thoughts
Thanks to Arjen for doing this buddyread with me. This series is so much fun to read if you're a horror/thriller fan. The writing, as I expect from Stephen King, is so fluently and easy to read. The first book was thrilling and a really good start to a great series. This book was highly enjoyable as well!

Pros
  • First book: The way this book blends in with the first book was awesome to read. I was thinking it would be just a story that had no connection with the first book, except for the main character. That is not the case! A lot of characters and events are connected with the first book. It's just a really smart and enjoyable way to connect these books.
  • References: The book is full of movie, series and book references that gave me another connection with this book. It's so nice to read about movies and series you enjoyed. It's also a smart way to make the book feel more real, if there are nowadays references.
  • Ending: Ooh boy!! Yes, yes, yes. I liked the ending SO MUCH. It really made me curious about the third book and it has such a creepy vibe to it.
  • Books: Books are a big part in this book and that's something I can always appreciate. The way two of the characters are ADDICTED to a certain main character is fun to read. I'd never go the lengths these characters go, but I'm a big fangirl myself when it comes to favorite book-characters, so in a way I could relate.
Cons
  • Needed more: I feel so spoiled now, but I just needed more from this book. Just more... Gore? Deaths? I don't really know. The first book was just SO thrilling, and I missed that a bit in this book.
Overall
This is not your typical horror, so even thriller/mystery fans who don't necessarily enjoy horror, could enjoy this book! The story is great and the writing style is what makes it so easy to read. I just love books by Stephen King and I'm sure I'll read much more of his books. Just give me all the creepy, gory and F-ed up things mister King comes up with, I love it!

Other opinions on this book
"Stephen King's superb new stay-up-all-night thriller, Finders Keepers, is a sly, often poignant tale of literary obsession that recalls the themes of his classic 1987 novel Mysery. A love letter to the joys of reading and to American literature. Wonderful, scary, moving."
- The Washington Post

"King's many, many fans will want this, especially those who enjoyed Mysery, but the second volume in King's projected trilogy will appeal to anyone who enjoys suspense and action, or anyone who finds enlightenment in reading about the internal struggle between right and wrong. It's not necessary to have read the previous book to enjoy this one."
- Library Journal

Memorable quotes from this book
"For readers, one of life's most electrifying discoveries is that they are readers - not just capable of doing it, but in love with it. Hopelessly. Head over heels."
