Synopsis
Something strange is happening at the Orsk furniture superstore in Cleveland, Ohio. Every morning, employees arrive to find broken Kjerring bookshelves, shattered Glans water goblets, and smashed Liripip wardrobes. Sales are down, security cameras reveal nothing, and store managers are panicking.

To unravel the mystery, three employees volunteer to work a nine-hour dusk-till-dawn shift. In the dead of the night, they’ll patrol the empty showroom floor, investigate strange sights and sounds, and encounter horrors that defy the imagination.

My thoughts
Thanks to Iza for doing this buddyread with me. I remember so well when my boyfriend gave me this book for my birthday. I was like; "What do I need an Ikea Catalogue for?!" When he told me to look better I saw it was an actual book! I was so excited to read this book and the thing that I loved most was the creativity in this book.

Pros
  • Creative: The cover is amazing, it shows exactly what you can expect; A lot of IKEA references. Inside the book there are forms and also advertisements. There are pictures of IKEA furniture and stuff like that. It was just so much fun to see what was coming next.
  • Setting: The setting is unique. I've never read a book about a furniture store that's maybe haunted. What was fun is that an IKEA store is known terrain for a lot of people, so you can easily picture it while everything is happening. Even the little Magic Tool in this book was familiar for me. Smart move by the author.
  • Creepy: I found the first chapters when you have no idea what is happening pretty creepy. I would love to see a movie made out of this book. It would be so cool to watch it.
  • Ending: The ending was SO STRONG. I was afraid that the ending would disappoint and that I had to give the book 3 stars because of the ending, but the ending was good. You can expect an ending with a bang. I loved that I also felt like I didn't get all the answers.

Cons
  • What did I miss?: I have no idea what I was missing to give this book 5 stars, but it just didn't feel like a 5 star book if I compare it to my other 5 star ratings. The book was good, it had a lot of fun elements, and I can't explain to you why I didn't give it 5 stars.
Overall
This book is great and even more fun if you've ever been to IKEA or browsed through an IKEA catalogue. The story is creepy and the ending was great. It also contains the right amount of humor, since it all kinda feels like a parody. I'm pretty sure every horror lover will like this book, so give it a try!

Other opinions on this book
"If you've ever been frustrated trying to put together furniture from IKEA, you'll get a laugh out of Hendrix's spoof mystery."
- New York Post

"The book's packaging as a catalog - complete with illustrations of increasingly sinister-looking furniture with faux Scandinavian names - gives it a charmingly oddball allure."
- Publishers Weekly

Memorable quotes from this book
"Let's make sure it's really raining before we worry about floods."

"That was her nature. Fail and quit. If you cut her open, it was fail and quit right to her bones."

Thanks for reading!
