My thoughts
I'm so glad that I decided to read the third book after not liking the second one. This book is a much better one, and I might even like this one the best out of all three books. It's a great ending for this trilogy and the characters were balanced better than in the second book.
Pros
- Rosie: I remember kinda hating Rosie in the second book. Maybe hate is a big word, but she was just so annoying and a negative influence on the story. She is much more likable in this book. She is trying, Don is trying and they're really just trying to do what's best for their kid.
- Parenthood: Rosie and Don are, in my eyes, great parents. They know Hudson VERY well, and they would do anything for him. I love how they are supportive and understanding and are always discussing what's best for Hudson.
- Message: I loved the message behind this story. It felt like the book was about finding your own way in the world. Hudson really is trying to fit in, and to please everybody. He's also trying to come to terms with himself, and so are other characters in this book. The pleasing and still trying to come to terms with himself, made for some hilarious scenes involving Hudson and nine out of ten times, Don.
- Ending: YAY! The ending was so good and I'm really glad that I decided to read the third book. The ending left me satisfied. If you've read the second book and are not sure to continue, I'd recommend you do! I'm glad I did, because I had a quite negative feeling about this series after reading the second book, but that's all better now!
Cons
- Teacher: The teacher in this book just hurt my teacher heart. I've never met a teacher in my life that is so eager to jump to conclusions. This teacher is putting labels on Hudson and using terms about Hudson that I would never use without consulting a pro first. I also don't understand why the teacher, at some point, won't believe Hudson, since Hudson seems like a really sweet kid. Worst character in the book, this teacher.
Overall
A great conclusion to a light-hearted series with some quite unique characters. The messages behind the stories in these books were so great to read. Autism is something that is hard to understand for people who aren't "on the spectrum" and these books make you understand a lot better. Don is a narrator that could teach you a thing or two!
