Synopsis
Echoes Between Us is bestselling author Katie McGarry’s breakout teen contemporary novel about a girl with everything to lose and the boy who will do anything to save her.

Veronica sees ghosts. More specifically, her mother's ghost. The afterimages of blinding migraines caused by the brain tumor that keeps her on the fringes and consumes her whole life haunt her, even as she wonders if it's something more...

Golden boy Sawyer is handsome and popular, a state champion swimmer, but his adrenaline addiction draws him to Veronica.

A girl with nothing to live for and a boy with everything to lose--can they conquer their demons together?

My thoughts
Thanks to Arjen for doing this buddyread with me. I felt like we were rushing through and I loved every second of it. This is one of those unique YA/Contemporary books that sucks you in and won't let go. I was so involved with the story and characters, and that's exactly what I want!

Pros
  • Characters: The characters in this book were the strongest part in my opinion. There is so much depth and there are so much layers. You don't get to know them all that well when you start the book. You have to keep reading and you'll get their personalities layer by layer with every chapter that you read. It was geniously done.
  • Poetry: The book and story felt, to me, like they had something poetic. I'm not the biggest poetry lover, but I can appreciate a little sprinkle here and there. The story and choice of words felt flowing and there was a ton of emotion behind it.

  • Diary and research: The diary of a real person has a huge part in this book and that was a brilliant choice by the author. The author note at the end of the book made me so happy. It gives the book another interesting layer, since now a fiction story is interwoven with a non-fiction diary.
  • Real: I was so involved in this book because it felt real. It felt like a real story, with real people and real emotions and real life struggles. I enjoyed every single chapter, page, sentence and letter.
Overall
A MUST read if you're looking for a book that feels so real, and takes you on that rollercoaster ride. This is one of the best books I've read this year and I was really glad that my Buddy, Arjen, wanted to read this with me, because I needed every other chapter to fangirl about!
