April Wrap up - Book Haul & What to Expect Next Month

Welcome, welcome my dear readers.
Welcome to the blog.

Spring is in the air! Tulip fields are popping up everywhere and there have been days of me just chilling outside, just how I like it! I have 2 weeks of Spring Break now and have been doing all kinds of fun things. I've been celebrating Kings Day with friends, it's usually huge in The Netherlands but with the lockdown and all, we just sat outside with some music, drinks and sushi!

I went to my first ever restaurant in 6 months, just the outside parts are open, but it was lovely to just have a wrap for lunch and chat up with a friend of mine.

I'll also have a little 3 day vacation with a colleague/friend in the South of The Netherlands, I'm really looking forward to it. We'll have a little car-scavenger hunt and we also rented bikes.

I'm just trying to chill, relax, do fun stuff and get the energy back that this lockdown winter cost me. After these 2 weeks of vacation its 3 weeks of more holidays and summer camp with my class. Then 5 more weeks till the end of the schoolyear. I can't believe it went by so fast!!

Hope u all were able to do some fun things these past few weeks.

Thanks for sticking with my blog and for reading!
Have a great month with loads of sunshine and good books.

🌷

Review: The Misfortunates / De helaasheid der dingen

Author:
Dimitri Verhulst

Finished the book: April 25th 2021
Pages: 208
Genres: Dutch, Literature
Published: January 2006

Goodreads score: 3.78
My score:
Synopsis
Sobriety and moderation are alien concepts to the men in Dimmy's family. Useless in all other respects, his three uncles have a rare talent for drinking, a flair for violence, and an unwavering commitment to the pub. And his father Pierre is no slouch either.
Within hours of his son's birth, Pierre plucks him from the maternity ward, props him on his bike, and takes him on an introductory tour of the village bars. His mother soon leaves them to it and as Dimmy grows up amid the stench of stale beer, he seems destined to follow the path of his forebears and make a low-life career in inebriation, until he begins to piece together his own plan for the future...
In this semi-autobiographical novel, Dimitri Verhulst brings his shambolic upbringing to life, with characteristic warmth, colour, and wit.

Review: Of Wicked Blood (The Quatrefoil Chronicles #1)

Author: Olivia Wildenstein & Katie Hayoz
Started reading: March 15th 2021
Finished the book: April 15th 2021
Pages: 434 / 14:41:00
Genres: YA, Fantasy
Published: February 2nd 2021

Goodreads score: 4.18
My score:
Synopsis
No rest for the wicked... or the cursed.

SLATE
I didn’t mean to steal the Bloodstone from the De Morel’s crypt. Scratch that, I did mean to steal it. Until I realized it was a curse-magnet that only comes off if I, along with a jolly trio, successfully defeat four curses. If any of us fail, I’m dead. I’ve never been a glass half-empty sort of person, but my glass looks in dire need of a refill right about now. The only highlight of this wicked treasure hunt: feisty, entitled Cadence de Morel.

CADENCE
I was raised on tales of magic, in a small town reputed to be the birthplace of French witchcraft. Did I believe all the stories I heard? Absolutely not. I mean, if magic existed, Maman wouldn’t have died, and Papa wouldn’t be stuck in a wheelchair, right? Wrong. The night Slate Ardoin waltzes into my life, wearing a ring he stole from my mother’s grave, I call him a monster. But then I meet real ones, and Slate, well . . . he becomes something else to me. Something frustrating to live with but impossible to live without. Something I will fight for, no matter the cost. *Warning: profuse cursing (and not just the magical kind).

Risking everything to transform himself and breach Gold society, Darrow has battled to survive the cutthroat rivalries that breed Society’s mightiest warriors, climbed the ranks, and waited patiently to unleash the revolution that will tear the hierarchy apart from within.

Finally, the time has come.

But devotion to honor and hunger for vengeance run deep on both sides. Darrow and his comrades-in-arms face powerful enemies without scruple or mercy. Among them are some Darrow once considered friends. To win, Darrow will need to inspire those shackled in darkness to break their chains, unmake the world their cruel masters have built, and claim a destiny too long denied—and too glorious to surrender.

Booktag: Unhaul #5

It's been 6 months since I did an unhaul. Since I keep adding books to my TBR, but never remove any, I decided to do another unhaul.
My TBR is so big, that it sometimes scares me. I decided to visit my own Goodreads shelves and to TRY and unhaul 10 books.

Please feel free to participate and unhaul some of your books. I'd love to know what books you decided to unhaul!
