Synopsis
While in Paris, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is awakened by a phone call in the dead of the night. The elderly curator of the Louvre has been murdered inside the museum, his body covered in baffling symbols. As Langdon and gifted French cryptologist Sophie Neveu sort through the bizarre riddles, they are stunned to discover a trail of clues hidden in the works of Leonardo da Vinci—clues visible for all to see and yet ingeniously disguised by the painter.

Even more startling, the late curator was involved in the Priory of Sion—a secret society whose members included Sir Isaac Newton, Victor Hugo, and Da Vinci—and he guarded a breathtaking historical secret. Unless Langdon and Neveu can decipher the labyrinthine puzzle—while avoiding the faceless adversary who shadows their every move—the explosive, ancient truth will be lost forever.

My thoughts
Thanks to Arjen for this buddyread! I'm not really sure if we're going to continue the Robert Langdon Series, because this book just felt like more of the same, instead of a new book that was refreshing? But I love how educational this series is. That is definitely a big reason to keep reading for me. I'm just not so sure about the story around all that.

Pros
  • Educational: The books in this series are so educational. There is a lot to learn about art, art history and this book also had a lot of information about the history of Christianity. I just love these topics and it's so much fun to get more information by reading this book. There was also a lot to learn ab out the Louvre, Da Vinci and the Mona Lisa. Fun!
  • Plot twists: There were a lot of plot twists in this book that kept me on edge and made it a bit more thrilling. It also made me curious about what more was to come. Some people that you feel like you can trust, are maybe not that trustworthy...
  • Ending: In the end you're getting answers, but maybe not all the answers you want. I didn't mind to be honest. I did feel like the end was moving and touching and that was a nice addition in this book, because sometimes the series feels a bit devoid of emotion, with all the information an facts.

Cons
  • More of the same: There were a lot of things in this book that felt quite the same as the first book. There is a mean man at the police; Langdon that works together with a female that lost someone. It really just took away a big part of the fun, because a lot of elements were the same.
Overall
I'm definitely here for all the facts, knowledge and information about art, history and famous artists. I'm just not so sure about the story around it. If the third book is just more of the same, then I'm not so sure if I want to read that. Anyone that can enlighten me about the rest of the series? 😊
