Synopsis
A decade ago, Darrow was the hero of the revolution he believed would break the chains of the Society. But the Rising has shattered everything: Instead of peace and freedom, it has brought endless war. Now he must risk everything he has fought for on one last desperate mission. Darrow still believes he can save everyone, but can he save himself?

And throughout the worlds, other destinies entwine with Darrow’s to change his fate forever:
A young Red girl flees tragedy in her refugee camp and achieves for herself a new life she could never have imagined.
An ex-soldier broken by grief is forced to steal the most valuable thing in the galaxy—or pay with his life.
And Lysander au Lune, the heir in exile to the sovereign, wanders the stars with his mentor, Cassius, haunted by the loss of the world that Darrow transformed, and dreaming of what will rise from its ashes.

My thoughts
I thought I was never going to read a 5-star book this year. March was so mediocre for me... But YES! Here it is! I had a hard time to get through the first part of this book, because I was reading other, shorter, quicker paced books. Last weekend I decided to just binge-read this book and I read 250 pages in one day, which is a LOT for me. I totally fell in love with this series again and I ordered book 5 right away.

Pros
  • Characters: I LOVED most of the characters. You have your beloved characters from the other 3 books, like Sevro, who is one of my favorites. But there are also some new characters which were so much fun to get to know and learn more about. Other than the first 3 books, which were in the POV of Darrow, this book has Multiple POVS, next to Darrow we follow 3 other characters. Sadly, some of my favorite characters died as well, but that's what I love about a good series!
  • Much happening: This book is SO BIG and a lot is happening. I was trying to remember what happend in the first 50% of the book, and I didn't have a hard time remembering, but I did feel like it was a lot. Overall this book is pretty fast paced, I just wasn't so fact paced with it, lol.
  • Final part: Oooooooh boy. I rushed the final 350 pages and I was just drinking this book, I was gobbling it all up. I had one of those days that no one better talk to you and they all have to leave you alone, because you're in the corner of your couch just trying to finish this before going to bed.
  • Next book: I can't WAIT for the next book. So much has happened at the end of this book. Some storylines have cliffhangers as well, but I can see it coming together in my head for the next book. I'm probably wrong, because Pierce Brown is a master at writing plot-twists. I'm so ready for it!

Cons
Ya kidding?

Overall
This is definitely one of those series that you just WANT on your shelves, because you're sure you will one day re-read it, because it's so good. This book does not disappoint, even thought we fast forward in this book for 10 years. I would recommend this book to any science-fiction or fantasy lover. It's SO gorydamn good!

Other opinions on this book
"Mature science fiction existing within the frame of blazing space opera. Done in a style that borders on Shakespearean."
- NPR (One of the Best Books of the Year)

Memorable quotes from this book
"Love does not fade. Love is the stars, and its light carries on long after death."

Thanks for reading!
