Synopsis
There's no police training stronger than a cop's instinct. Faith Mitchell's mother isn't answering her phone. Her front door is open. There's a bloodstain above the knob. Her infant daughter is hidden in a shed behind the house. All that the Georgia Bureau of Investigations taught Faith Mitchell goes out the window when she charges into her mother's house, gun drawn. She sees a man dead in the laundry room. She sees a hostage situation in the bedroom. What she doesn't see is her mother. . . .

""You know what we're here for. Hand it over, and we'll let her go.""

When the hostage situation turns deadly, Faith is left with too many questions, not enough answers. To find her mother, she'll need the help of her partner, Will Trent, and they'll both need the help of trauma doctor Sara Linton. But Faith isn't just a cop anymore--she's a witness. She's also a suspect.

My thoughts
Yessss, I'm here to talk about The Queen of Crime! I couldn't wait to dive back into this series and I'm planning on finishing it this year. I've put all the books in this series high on my TBR. I used to take years to read a series, but I can't do that anymore. I think it really makes a bookseries better if you read them close to each other, instead of leaving 6 months (or more) in between, which I used to do before...

Pros
  • Characters: The characters and relationships in this book are amazing. Will is such an interesting main character. Sara is one I have loved for a long time and I was so happy to see her appear in this series as well. I was NOT ready to leave her behind in the Grant County series. Together, they are amazing!
  • Mystery: Lots of deaths, lots of mystery and while I was reading I had no clue. There is money, corruption, family problems and kidnapping. So much is going on, it's easy to rush through.
  • Read: I just wanted to READ. These books are so great, so amazing. There is no useless information, or fussing over nothing. The writing style is so easy to rush through and I LOVE the translations in Dutch. Karin Slaughter literally has the best translator that she could find for these books.
  • Humor/Romance: It's not crystal clear or very in your face, but the humor, sarcasm and wit in this book are so much fun. I started tabbing again in this book and I tabbed the shit out of it, lol. The romantic parts were really fun, slow, lovely and it really felt like feelings were taking it's time to grow.

Cons
Nay.

Overall
This book will now have a special place in my heart, because with this book I started tabbing again, and I've been really enjoying it.
People who love thrillers have to at least read the series Karin Slaughter writes. And pleaaassseee read them in order! Which means you start with the Grant County series. Do it, it's really good!

Other opinions on this book
"Karin Slaughter has written a novel that is complex, unsettling, and with one of the meatiest suspense plots of the summer."
- Tucson Citizen

"Slaughter's thrillers are always exciting, but it's her compelling characters that really make them page-turners."
- Minneapolis Star Tribune

Thanks for reading!
